Authentic raincoat from the workshops of Miguel Gregorio Molero, made around 1720-1740 in Toledo, in a single piece of silk with gold and silver threads. Its floral motifs with wide branches extend across the entire surface, characteristic of the decorative conception of “horror vacui” – fear of emptiness –, which was maintained in the Rococo. It has high quality embroidery and good general condition, with some tears and scratches.
Measurements: 284 x 141 cm.

" Since 1714, a simple Toledo workshop operated that had a very important impact at a national and even international level.
In the city of Toledo there existed – for several decades – one of the best Spanish workshops for textile artisans. Don Miguel Gregorio Molero opened the business, who was an artist dedicated to embroidery exclusively in gold, silver and natural silk (without dye) . This man obtained a royal license - Charles III - to sell to the entire kingdom, to buy silk not only in Talavera de la Reina, but in other places, to obtain tax exemptions for both import and export, as well as to copy foreign motifs. .
Despite the economic crises – which there were as well, as happens to us today – the workshops continued to produce. Thus in 1786, according to inventories that we know today, 600 tissues and stockings, 60 stoles, 30 pluvial cloths, 42 chasubles, 28 pluvial capes and 18 dalmatics were embroidered. Under his direction there was a staff of 31 people – registered – working on 12 looms. Even in 1849, this Molero ornament factory still existed, unique in Spain and perhaps in Europe, its main characteristic being the fact that its productions were made of a single piece.
