The Beatles' 1965 performance at Shea Stadium in New York was a monumental event. Attended by 55,000 people, it was the biggest crowd the Beatles had ever faced and one of the largest entertainment events in U.S. history at the time. Despite the fact that the band were drowned out by the screams of their adoring public, the event solidified the Beatles' reputation as the biggest act in the world. By the time the Beatles returned to the U.S. in 1966, their popularity had waned slightly and they played to a few less-than-sold-out houses. Cleveland was the third of 14 U.S. cities the Beatles played on what became their final tour.
