The Beatles: Yesterday and Today, first state sealed mono album, Alan Livingston Copy

[ translate ]

The Beatles Yesterday and Today, Capitol Records, 1966, first state, mono, sealed in its original factory shrink-wrap, with a letter from Alan Livingston to Larry Morrell dated November 7, 1977.
12.25 x 12.25 in.

The so-called "Butcher Block" album cover for the Beatles' 10th U.S album created no small amount of controversy when it was released. The negative reaction from retailers, media and the public at large led Capitol Records to withdraw the record and reissue it with a much tamer image. Alan Livingston, the president of Capitol Records in 1966, was given a box of the original pressings from the Los Angeles pressing plant and he held onto them for many years. In 1986, Livingston's son sold a few copies of his father's stash at a record show in Los Angeles, thus making the world aware of this rarity. The copy offered here pre-dates the release of those copies by nine years and includes the original signed letter to the recipient of this record in 1977. Sealed first state copies of Yesterday and Today are the most collectable of Beatles records and a legitimate "Livingston" version is the best among them.
