The first eight volumes of this impressive botanical publication in unsophisticated contemporary half calf over marbled paper boards. Volume I lacks frontispiece portrait; thereafter: 389 of 390 plates called for [plate 119 folding; plate 120 not coloured], lacking plate 133 in Volume III [Hyacinthus Comosus - the description leaf is present, the plate evidently not bound in]. Alphabetical listing of plates in manuscript to pastedown of each volume. Boards rubbed, leather worn and joints split, with play to some boards; upper board of II nearly detached. Textblocks firm, contents clean, colours brilliant. Publication dates by Volume: 1790, 1788, 1790, 1791, 1792, 1793, 1794, 1794. Front and rear blank free endpapers present in all volumes.
