The C.B.E. group of four orders and medals to Major Francis Robert Edward Davis, RAF and Great Western Railway Company: The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Civil Division, Commander's neck badge, Britannia type, gilt and enamel, wear to centre gilding, otherwise nearly extremely fine; Military Division, Officer's breast badge, Britannia type, silver gilt, good very fine; British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal with Mention in Despatches emblem (MAJOR F.R.E. DAVIS. R.A.F.), nearly extremely fine, the last three mounted for wearing. [4]

C.B.E. London Gazette 01/01/1936 "On the occasion of the centenary of the Railway"

Originally commissioned into the Royal Naval Volunteer reserve in 1915, the recipient served in the Royal Naval Air Service and the RAF. He served at Kingsnorth Airship Station, and was appointed, in December 1916, to the Air Department's S.C.E. Committee. In the following year he was sent to the U.S.A., were according to his record, "Improvements in the [Naval Air Service] of U.S. [have] been largely brought about by him."
