"The Columbia, America's Great Highway through the Cascade Mountains to the Sea", by Samuel Christopher Lancaster. Lancaster self-published his book in 1915 and this Second Edition was 1916. Samuel Lancaster, born in Magnolia, Mississippi in 1864, was an noted engineer and landscape architect. He moved to Oregon in 1908 and was hired by Multnomah County to design the Historic Columbia River Highway. The book contains many old photographs taken by the author as well as a general history of the area.
