The Dodge family Chippendale mahogany slant front desk, attributed to Nathaniel Gould, Ipswich, Massachusetts, circa 1780. Nicely fitted stepped interior with four shells. Oxbow case with shell carved drop on ball and claw feet. Extensive inscriptions on sides of interior drawers, including “John Dodge” and “Barnabus Dodge, 1792”. Purchased from The Morris House, Jan. 1, 1979, receipt accompanies lot. Considerable research performed by Mr. Thomas will also b included 43.5” height 22” depth 43” wide. Typical wear, sun struck finish, some blocking replaced, fracture to inside of left front foot. Left loper repaired. Drawer sides resoled. Hardware period, likely original.
