The Frog Who Would A-Wooing Go c. 1910 Nursey Rhyme Book ILLUSTRATED

Published by The Hayes Lithography Co. based in Buffalo, New York. Victorian era chromolithograph illustrated children's book. Beautiful full page color plates. The story itself is an ancient English nursery rhyme (often associated with the song "Frog Went A-Courting" or featuring the famous refrain "Heigh ho! says Rowley"). It tells the cautionary, comedic tale of a swaggering frog who puts on his opera hat and goes out to find a mate ("wooing"). Along the way, he joins up with a rat, and they visit Mrs. Mouse for beer and cheer. Their party is dramatically interrupted when a cat and her kittens rush in, capturing the rat and mouse. The terrified frog escapes, only to be swallowed by a lily-white duck while crossing a brook on his way home.
