The Gaon of Tshebin's Marriage Certificate. Jerusalem, Elul 1949

[ translate ]

Official Edah Charedit of Jerusalem marriage certificate, for the gaon of Tchebin's second marriage. The witnesses are his disciple Rabbi Henich Padua, Av Beit Din of London, and R' Shimon Klein. Signed by the officiating rabbi, the author of Da'at Sofer of Pressburg (see extensive coverage of him on Winner's website).
Rabbinic leaders' marriages, especially second marriages, are lofty matters. It is told that before the ceremony, the gaon of Tshebin turned to the officiating rabbi, the Da'at Sofer, and said to him that before the rabbi of Ruzhin married his second wife, he called the officiating rabbi into a room and spoke to him for a while. When the officiating rabbi left the room, his face was white as a sheet. From this story we learn, continued the gaon of Tshebin, that wedding ceremonies of rabbinic leaders conceal lofty matters far beyond our comprehension.
Rabbi Dov Berish Weidenfeld [1881-1966] was one of the rabbinic leaders of Galicia. He was known as 'Sar HaTorah' and 'Posek HaDor.' The gaon of Tshebin was admired by all rabbinic leaders of the generation, both Chassidic and those opposed to Chassidism. The Admo"r of Gur, the author of Imrei Emet, honored him once with an aliyah to the Torah, and said of him: "Today we honored the Torah itself with an aliyah to the Torah." (See more about him on Winner's website.)
