St. Sebastian deplored and supported by several gracious ladies while putti descended from heaven with palm leaves and laurel to crown the Saint as a martyr.
In the pose and refined expression of the ladies' faces, there is definitely an influence of Anthony Van Dyck. The composition and the rhythm of the colours refer to the Italian High Renaissance and Antwerp early Baroque period.

Condition: Some flaking of the pigment layer in the upper left corner.
Several cracks and pigment loss along both sides of the painted column.
A large star-shaped tear to the top of the work. Several ditto (poorly) restored tears.
Over-paint and restoration in the shoulder parts of the represented ladies and in the body of Saint Sebastian.
Excessive cleaning in the attempt to remove the yellowing varnish
In our opinion in moderate condition. Needs a professional check-up.
