The Miraculous Medal is THE best-known devotional medal. It was created following the Marian apparitions of the Rue du Bac in 1830, in the Notre-Dame-de-la-Médaille-miraculeuse chapel, in Paris, where Catherine Labouré of the Parisian convent of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul told his confessor that he had seen the Virgin Mary. According to Catholic tradition, this medal was struck at the express request of the Mother of God, made during the second apparition (November 27, 1830) as a testimony of love, pledge of protection and source of grace.
