Volumes I-VI of XV (July, 1868-July, 1871) in the first series. Edited by Bret Harte. (8vo) 22.8x15.2 cm (9x6") five volumes bound in green cloth, lettered in gilt on spine with a gilded California bear. Volume II in original green wrappers.

Six of fifteen volumes of this important San Francisco literary magazine, edited by Bret Harte and the venue for the publication of some of his most famous early stories, including "The Luck of Roaring Camp" (which appeared in the second issue, August, 1868), "The Outcasts of Poker Flat," "Tennessee's Partner," "Plain Language from Truthful James," and others. Other contributor's included Charles Warren Stoddard, Ina Coolbrith (an associate editor and poet), and "Sam L. Clemens (Mark Twain)". Volume 2 more noticeably worn than others due to being in original wrappers, some loss to ends of spine with front hinge cracked and occasional small dampstaining; very good.
Condition Report: Touches of wear to cloth volumes with varying degrees of rubbing to ends of spines, occasional small dampstains and toning to endpapers and edges of textblocks; very good.
