Sandro Bonaiuto (American, 20th century), sculpted candleholder showing book and flame, for The Rowfant Club of Cleveland, Ohio, bronze, numbered 78/125, marks the centennial date of the founding of the men's bibliophilic organization; when holding a candle in flame abstracted form creates a shadow of the club's mascot, a groundhog, on the open page below, 5" h x 8 1/4" l x 5 3/4" w. A bronze candlestick made for the 100th Anniversary of the Rowfant Club of Cleveland, OH by Sandro Bonaiuto, depicting a flame coming out of the center of an open book, impressed THE ROWFANT CLUB / 1892-1992 / Cleveland, Ohio on top, on side with artist's signature, and 12/90 © 45/125 also on side; ht. 5, wd. 9, dp. 5.5 in. Founded in 1892, The Rowfant Club is Cleveland's premier bibliographic society celebrating the art of the book including paper making, bookbinding, and printing. With the Shakespearean motto of "Light Seeking Light Doth Light of Light Beguile," members meet annually on Groundhog Day (Candlemas) and each member receives a candlestick often designed to include their mascot, the groundhog. Members then use these sticks throughout the year to reserve their seats at dinner at their weekly meetings.
