'The Sleeping Christ' After Charles Le Brun (1655) - Oil On Canvas XIX Old Master - Mid 19th century

[ translate ]

A very beautiful good sized oil painting on canvas dating to the mid 19th century, France. The painting depicts 'The sleeping Christ' alongside The Madonna, Saint Joseph and Child Saint John The Baptist. 'The sleeping Christ' is a painting originally painted by Charles Le Brun (1655) . This is a good quality old master painting based on this painting but completed in reverse. The painting is signed and dated twice. The date is 1849 but the signature is quite difficult to read; it looks like it says 'Bonneur', but this needs to be investigated closer. The first signature is on the throne and the second is in the bottom right hand corner. The original painting is currently housed in the Louvre. The painting could benefit from a gentle clean to reveal even deeper colours. Overall in very good condition without any damage. The painting is housed in a 19th century wooden frame which shows signs of usage and age. Overall dimensions: Including frame: 53 cm wide x 71 cm high Unframed: 46 cm x 65 cm Please ask any questions that you may have.
