TWO VOLUMES COMPLETE. Volume 1 published 1803, volume 2 published 1804. FIRST & ONLY EDITION. Each volume contains a frontispiece, plus extra-illustrated engraved title page. Illustrated with a total of 27 full-page engraved plates by John Scott after John Michael Rysbrack & Philip Reinagle (12 in vol. 1, + 13 in vol. 2, + 2 frontispieces, though one plate is used twice in Vol. 2 & repeated as both the frontispiece & the plate placed opposite p.186). Also contains 23 wood-engraved text vignettes by Thomas Bewick (10 in vol. 1, + 13 in vol. 2). Also with small engraved vignette as tailpiece at final text page in Vol. 2. With an introduction in volume 1. Printed & published for the proprietors, by J. Cundee, London. Bound in matching contemporary half-leather & marbled boards, raised bands, gilt-lettered leather labels to spines, gilt design in compartments to spines, matching marbled endpapers. NOTE: Bindings FAIR to GOOD ONLY, contents VERY GOOD. Both front boards detached (but present), volume 1 ffep + blank + frontispiece ALL detached with front board (but all present), volume 2 index leaf + rear blank + rear endpaper ALL detached with rear board (but all present), volume 1 spine becoming detached, boards rubbed, wear to spines with chipping to leather, mild foxing including to plate margins, front marbled board of volume 2 with small scrapes, otherwise a nice clean solid complete leatherbound set. Internal contents VG. Ideal for rebinding or restoration. Pagination checked & complete (volume 1 with 3 page numbers wrongly printed though correctly placed: p.32 states "23", p.134 states "034", & p.231 states "331"). No advertisements.
