The Trip of the Emperor , Attributed to Guy-Louis Vernansal

[ translate ]

Attributed to Guy-Louis Vernansal
Paris 1648 - 1729
The Trip of the Emperor

oil on canvas
canvas: 30 by 44⅞ in.; 76.2 by 114 cm.
framed: 32½ by 47½ in.; 82.5 by 120.5 cm.

Condition Report:
The canvas has an old glue relining and is planar and stable. There is some abrasion to the paint layer, and the varnish has thinned and dulled. The colors remain bright, however, and the details are generally well-preserved, particularly in the costumes of the figures at lower right and at left on the horse, as well as the tapestry beneath the central figure. Ultra-violet light reveals an unevenness in the varnish and some old restorations scattered throughout, particularly in the sky, a few of which have begun to blanch and can be seen with the naked eye. Offered in a simple carved wood frame.
