The Wandering Jew and the Eternal Jew - four hand-painted wood prints. France, late 19th century

"le Juif-errant" - four leaves - various hand-painted woodblock prints of the Wandering Jew, one of which is of the "Eternal Jew". On each leaf is the stereotypical figure of the "wandering Jew" presented in different situations in his wanderings in front of the local population. Next to the paintings was printed the poem of the wandering Jew: "Is there anything on earth more surprising than the great misery of the poor wandering Jew? How sad and unfortunate his fate seems!". France, late 19th century.

Three leaves with the title and scenes of the Wandering Jew accompanied by a poem about the unfortunate wandering Jew who is doomed to be a wanderer and goes forever (same lyrics in all three, two published by Pelerin and one published by nouvels images de nancy). One poster with a title in German "The True Portrait of the Eternal Jew" - in this poster the poems are in German, but the content is the same as the legend of the Wandering Jew who following his contempt to Jesus while being led to death, was destined to be a wanderer and walk forever.

Same size: 31x43 cm. overall very good condition. Light tears in the print number 5 with no damage to the text.
