The complete text of the Qur'an written on a single large sheet of paper, copied by Salman Bakht, India, Gwalior, dated AH 1288/AD 1870-71

Arabic manuscript on orange paper decorated with large intertwining floral and vegetal motifs in gold, text written in small naskhi script in black ink with diacritics and vowel points in black, verses marked by small circles, suras marked with a plain palmette motif, cartouche in upper border containing verses from the Qur'an written in thuluth script, cartouche in lower border containing the colophon, border in a Mughal style with stylised floral motifs in gold on a dark blue ground, backed on to cloth
text area 98 x 190 cm.; total size with cloth backing 207 x 116 cm.

The colophon reads: 'The servant at the shrine/court of the Shah, Salman Bakht [?], wrote and decorated it in the seat of government, Gwalior, in 1288'. The word 'shah' here is probably a reference to a sufi and not a ruler.
