"The monuments of France" (transl.) by Alexandre de Laborde, Paris, 1816/1836"Les monuments de la France, classés chronologiquement et considérés sous le rapport des faits historiques et de l'étude des arts." by Alexandre-Louis-Joseph de Laborde, published by Didot l'Aîné in Paris, 1816 (Vol.1) and 1836 (Vol. 2). This monumental (in each respect!) work in two imperial folio volumes, each measuring 59 x 43 x 6,5 cm and weighin together over 40 pounds (!) is bound in red half-calf with marbled covers. It contains 258 full or even double-page illustrations of monuments, from ancient roman times up to gothic and Renaissance-style cathedrals and castles. Each spine with a little tear, the cover of Vol. 1 with a crack, rubbed. Strong paper, with foxing mostly in the white margins. Strong print of excellent quality.
