There are a total of three versions of Theodor Schüz's 'Walk on Easter Morning' known. A version from 1859 is in a company collection in Biberach an der Riß and a smaller version in the Staatliche Kunsthalle in Karlsruhe, undated. The present painting was painted in 1867 and purchased directly from the artist and has been in the family ever since.

See F.v. Boetticher: *Paintings of the Nineteenth Century*. Dresden, 1891–1901, Volume II.2, p. 687, no. 4. This is most likely the earliest version, which was in a private collection in England. With reference to an etching by Johannes Eissenhardt on the same subject.
