Théodore Alexander Weber (Leipzig, 1838 - Paris, 1907) was a German-French painter. He was a student of Wilhelm Krause in Berlin from 1854 to 1856. After that he left for Paris where he would continue to live. He specialised in painting seascapes and painted in a large number of French ports along the Atlantic coast. His style was realistic and as can be seen in the painting offered, a rough sea near Ostend in Belgium. He took part in the Paris Salons in the period 1861-1869, in those in Lyon from 1867, and was also present at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. He painted the ports of Grevelingen, Boulogne, Le Tréport, Fécamp, Trouville, Yport, Dover, Ostend, Blankenberge, Veere and Vlissingen. He also painted fishing boats on the open sea, including at Finistère and in the Bay of Douarnenez. Around 1890 he undertook a trip to Constantinople, which translated into several paintings. The painting on offer is large in size and gives a beautiful and realistic representation of the activities of fishermen who did their work under rough weather conditions. Condition: good. Frame: framed in a gold-coloured ornamental frame. Signed: bottom right. Edition: original. The painting is professionally canvased. This work comes from a collection of an art collector.
