Volume One, "From the Alleghanies to the Mississippi 1769-1776," inscribed on the flyleaf "with the regards of/ Theodore Roosevelt/ Dec 16th 1904," and signed by the previous owner "This book was signed for/ Marsh Klock Powers/ G.F.K.;" Volume Two, "From the Alleghanies to the Mississippi 1777-1783," Volume Three, "The Founding of the Trans-Alleghany Commonwealths 1784-1790," and Volume Four, "Louisiana and the Northwest, 1791-1807, each with frontispiece and maps, green cloth boards, gilt title, author and decoration to the spine and "Theodore Roosevelt" on the front cover; each housed in a green leather and cloth-covered board clamshell case with gilt lettering.
