Bridge in Alblasserwaard. Van Oorschot exhibited in 1979 at 113 the Art Gallery of Hilton Rotterdam. This exhibition was opened by HRH Prince Bernhard on 30 March 1979. After the honorary exhibition in 1980 for the occasion of his 70th birthday, more exhibitions quickly followed. The artist Theodorus (Dorus) van Oorschot lived and worked mainly in Schijndel. He was educated at the Academy of fine arts in Tilburg and was taught by Antoon van Domburg, Charles Bakker and Nico Molenkamp. Van Oorschot painted in the style of the Hague School, impressionistic and colourful. Subjects are mainly Brabant landscapes, interiors, still lifes and flowers. Van Oorschot had several imitators who tried to imitate his smooth way of painting. At the end Dorus reached his ideal with great perseverance. He moved from being a house painter to an art painter.
