Thilo Maatsch: Abstract Composition Medium: Ink Drawing Material: Vergé-paper Dimensions: 25. 5 x 35 cm Year: 1928 Signature: Signed and dated Condition / Restauration: used condition The German graphic artist, painter and sculptor Thilo Friedrich Maatsch (1900, Braunschweig, DE - 1983, Königslutter, DE) became known in the 1920s primarily for his geometrically abstract color field works. In 1918, together with Rudolf Jahns and Johannes Molzahn, he founded the “Society of Friends of Young Art” in Braunschweig, whose members included Lyonel Feininger and Paul Klee. In the same year Maatsch joined the «November Group». Annual participation in the "Great Berlin Art Exhibition" followed until 1932. In 1927 Herwarth Walden organized a solo exhibition for him in his gallery Der Sturm. His works have been acquired by better-known private collections, including the Deutsche Bank Collection, Stephan Hupertz, Carl Lazlo, and Alfred and Elisabeth Hoh.
