Silesian Porcelain (known as the “Giesche” Porcelain Factory from 1929 to 1939, and as the “Bogucice” Porcelain Works from 1950 to 1993) - a porcelain manufacturing plant operating from 1920 to 2009 in Katowice. Founded in 1920 as the Oberschlesische Porzellanfabrik Gebhardt & Barabasch porcelain factory in Szopienice-Roździeń. Later that same year, it was purchased by Richard Czuday, who renamed the plant Czuday Werke GmbH Porzellanfabrik für elektrische Bedarfsartikel in Schoppinitz. In 1923, the Giesche company acquired a majority stake, and the plant was relocated to Bogucice. The first products were fired there in 1924. During the interwar period, the factory grew rapidly, employing hundreds of workers and introducing modern technologies. After World War II, it was nationalized and operated successively as Zakłady Porcelany “Bogucice” and, from 1994, as Porcelana Śląska. In 2009, the company declared bankruptcy, bringing to an end nearly 90 years of porcelain production in Bogucice.
