Thirteen-Piece Neo-Renaissance Oak Dining Suite
fourth quarter 19th century, comprised of a dining table, h. 30", dia. 60", ext. l. 112-1/2", a sideboard, h. 81-1/4", w. 78", d. 25-1/4", a server, h. 41", w. 55", d. 22", and a suite of ten dining chairs, two armchairs, h. 48", and eight side chairs, h. 43-3/4", all robustly carved, the table with a circular top opening to extend as a banquet table and retaining three leaves, on a baluster-form leaf-carved pedestal jointed to legs with fruit carving at the knees and resting on paw feet, the sideboard with an upper section with a carved crest over a pair of shelves on carved brackets and backed by carved panels, the lower one with a satyr masque, on a base with rounded corners and drawers over doors, the doors mounted by carved trophies of the hunt, the server with a pair of drawers over a pair of shelves joined by legs with fruit and leaf carving, the chairs comprised of a pair of armchairs of Elizabethan revival form with like carving.

Other Notes: Highly carved oak dining suites of this type show up in the New Orleans area from time to time. While their origin appears to be undocumented, the group of tables has popularly been reputed to be of New Orleans manufacture.
