This rare signed piece of pottery is an original creation by Polia Pillin who developed a technique of painting on wet clay with colored clays. After being fired to a stone-like hardness, the pot is covered with a film of transparent glaze and fired again at a high temperature. The result is a jewel-like luminosity, with a ring like that of glass and with depth and texture of a rich painting.
Every object made by this artist shows a marked variation in color, texture or design from every other object. Each piece is therefore unique.
This work comes from with the original 1966 paperwork and would make a stunning addition to any fine collection.
