Thomas Chandler Attributed Decorated Stoneware Jar

likely made at Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, South Carolina, circa 1850's, alkaline glaze over ovoid form, kaolin slip swag decoration around shoulder and under handles, thick glassy runs at shoulder to one side of jar, nicely turned rounded rim between applied lug handles, approximately 5 gallons, 16 in.ÿ - Provenance: Collection of Dr. Joseph T. and Gaile E. Condition Report: glaze voids and anomalies as made, 1 in. chip under handle, 1/2 in. chip to edge of same handle, some minor base edge wear and chips, 2 small firing cracks on base, firing hairlines at edge of handles, 10 in. long series of firing anomalies around lower body of jarÿ
