BIOGRAPHY:
Thomas Charles Stratton is an American realist whose paintings convey the simple beauty found in everyday subjects. His emotive works depict serene landscapes, everyday occurrences and common humanity, deliberately avoiding the artifacts of modern life. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout the northeastern United States and in Canada, and can be found in the collections of many individuals and institutions.Tom makes his home in New York's mid-Hudson River valley. The area's natural beauty has influenced his subject matter, as has his extensive travel and work experience on the New England coast and north into eastern Canada. Stratton's paintings recall a style reminiscent of Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper. His subjects, always of a common nature, have a dignity that stems from a sense of timelessness. Their emotional flavor is seasoned by the use of light derived from a pallet of earth tones and purples.Stratton started recording his impressions of landscapes in watercolor at an early age, and now works in acrylics and other media. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz and a former art teacher.
