Thomas Sheard studied in Paris under Gustave Courtois and Jules Joseph Lefebvre. He exhibited 14 works at the Royal Academy, many of which were Orientalist subjects, including Market morning in the city of the Sahara, Interior of an Arab house, An Arab school and An Arab fete.
Orientalist paintings by Sheard are in public collections, for instance The Market Place, Guardia (Cartwright Hall Art Gallery) and African Bazaar Scene (1896, Kirklees Museums and Galleries).
