Thomas Greenhalgh, British fl.1848-1906- View of the Thames at Iffley Mill near Oxford; pencil and watercolour on paper, signed 'T. Greenhalgh' (lower right), 66 x 100 cm. Provenance: With Trinity at Regent House, London.; Corporate Collection, UK. Note: Greenhalgh is chiefly recognised for his highly detailed depictions of landscapes and cities around Europe in the Victorian period. His style has been described as that of the ‘English Water School’ but he also produced accomplished oils. His watercolours on this large scale are rare, though he has not compromised here on close observation of detail. His skill as an artist is particularly evident in the finely rendered reflections on the water and the confident treatment of the detailed elements of the Mill building.
