It was, however, produced before Mount and Page took over publishing from 1716-1761. A number of the charts east of the Persian Gulf were based directly on manuscript maps, or copies of them, drawn by Thornton himself. Seventeen such charts were captured by two French ships from the English East Indiaman the 'Canterbury', off Malacca.
