Three 14th C. Chinese Ming Pottery Jars

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, Guangdong province, ca. late 14th to early 15th century CE. A beautiful ensemble of 3 pottery jars, each boasting a broad rounded shoulder, 4 horizontal loop handles, an attenuated neck, and a rolled rim, with their top portions glazed in neutral tones of peach, butterscotch, and mocha. Note how both the largest and most petite vessels are scattered with barnacles and marine deposits - wonderful souvenirs form centuries spent on the ocean floor and indicators that these were likely part of a shipwreck! Size of largest: 5.4" Diameter x 6.25" H (13.7 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition Report: Light surface wear with some small nicks as shown. Otherwise, all are intact and excellent with nice remains of glaze. Marine deposits and encrustations to largest and most petite vessels. Mid-size and most petite jars have labels from the National Museum of the Philippines, indicating they were old by the museum - a common practice in the 20th century for overstocked artifacts.
