Three Aztec Club Medals Attributed to John Coffee Hays and Family
Lot consists of three Aztec Club medals including one membership badge consisting of a gilt Maltese cross with Mexican eagle and "AZTEC CLUB/U.S. ARMY/1847" on the obverse with "CITY OF MEXICO/ARMY OF OCCUPATION" on the reverse with 1" wide blue and white ribbon and one 50th Anniversary medal with green, white, and blue ribbon with "AZTEC CLUB. OCTOBER. A D. 1847. SOCIETAS BELLI" on the obverse and "OCTOBER 13, 1847 / OCTOBER 13, 1897" on the reverse. Rim is engraved "COL. JOHN C. HAYS TEXAS". Also included is one 1.375" bronze medallion with "OCTOBER 13, 1847 / OCTOBER 13, 1922" on the reverse. The medals issued after Hays' death were either issued to him posthumously, or were presented to his son, John Coffee Hays Jr., who was by virtue of his father's membership, also a member of the Aztec Club. **Excellent condition overall.
