Three chairs by Flexform, with wooden structure, covered in bone-coloured fabric, covering straight backrest, seat and armrests. The front legs have castors. Flexform was born in the Brianza furniture production area. It is here, in the 1960s, that the unique phenomenon of Italian design originated. It is a land where the history of many small artisan workshops that, since the beginning of the 20th century, have been working with wood, metal and upholstery for sofas, is intertwined with that of the great masters of Italian design who studied at the University of Architecture in nearby Milan. In 1959 the Galimberti brothers opened an artisan workshop they called Flexform di Galimberti. After the Second World War they would decorate elegant buildings in Milan, luxurious villas on the shores of Lake Como, and the foyer of the Scala Theatre in Milan. In 1967 Flexform became a public limited company. They sought the cooperation of the greatest designers of the day: Joe Colombo, Asnago-Vender, Cini Boeri, Rodolfo Bonetto and many others. With the young architect Antonio Citterio, the company began in those same years an evolution of business growth that has lasted uninterruptedly for more than forty years.
