Three Chinese Pottery Equine Figures

HORSE FIGURES: TANG DYNASTY (618-907); HEAD OF A HORSE: HAN DYNASTY (206 BC - 220 AD)

comprising a pair of pottery figures of horses, one standing upright, the other braying, and a green glazed pottery head of a horse with removable ears.

Head of a horse:
height 15 X width 15 in.

The head: the ears are removable as apparently intended at the point of fabrication. Each with various flaking at chipping to the extremities, one is restored. The head with crumbles of dry pottery flaking from the interior, some stable cracks to neck, and indications of restoration (please refer to the resonance in the audio of video available upon request).

Each figure of a horse with pigment loss and drilled holes for TL testing, possibly restored. The 'braying' example with a stable crack horizontal across the neck. Each together with the original TL test result.

One horse's legs are broken.
Note:
The result of Daybreak Laboratory thermoluminescence tests performed on a sample 389A622, from under the right hip joint and 389A589 from the right rear haunch are consistent with the dating of the 'braying' and 'grazing' horses in this lot, respectively. The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. report on sample C102p79 is consistent with the dating of the horse head.
