Three French Gilt-Bronze Boudoir Objects
ca. 1900, including a shaped gilt-bronze and crystal jewel casket, the top with an inset enamel portrait of a lady initialed "L.C" and trophee-mounted crystal sides, h. 2-1/2", w. 5", d. 4", an enamel portrait of Marie Antoinette signed "Stefane" mounted on an onyx back set in an Empire-style gilt-bronze frame, h. 5", w. 3-1/4", and a gilt-bronze jewel box with acanthus-decorated serpentine sides set with a porcelain portrait of Marie Antoinette, h. 1-1/4", w. 3-3/4", d. 3-3/4".
Provenance: Estate of Margaret McDermott, Shreveport, Louisiana.
Condition Report: **CRYSTAL CASKET:
Oxidation to the gilt-bronze scattered throughout. The cover does not close completely flat. Plaque with faint scuff at edge above her bangs, three faint hairlines from edge at rear of her hair and a faint hairline from lower center edge. None of these detract from her overall appearance.
Cover interior fitted with a beveled mirror. The canted crystal exterior corners with three professionally ground and another with a "flea bite". The interior floor with a 1/8" flake chip near the star center.
FRAMED PORTRAIT:
Oxidation to gilt-bronze frame. Enameled portrait good. Onyx with a faint vertical hairline from center circular frame to lower frame (5/8").
JEWEL BOX:
General oxidation to the gilt-bronze. Cover does not close completely flat. Portrait with a horizontal surface scratch across the hat (3/8"), another from her hair across her nose (7/8") and across her sleeve/bodice (1/2"). The sage velvet-lined interior exhibits wear at the edges and very scattered small discolorations.
The above all consistent with age and use.
