Three Limoges enamelled copper pictures in Mediaeval style

[ translate ]

Three Limoges enamelled copper pictures in Mediaeval style, 19th century, one in the manner of work by Julien Robillard, depicting King Henry II of England and Philip Augustus of France beneath a tree, initialled IR (probably spuriously) and indistinctly dated, mounted, framed and glazed, the enamel 16 x 11cm, 30 x 25cm overall, the second depicting Saint Jacinctus in a landscape, initialled IL (probably spuriously), perhaps for Jacques Laudin, in a giltwood frame, the enamel 14 x 11cm, 23 x 23cm overall, and the third depicting Saint Batholomew, mounted within a gilt metal frame, the enamel 8.5 x 7cm, 18 x 12.5cm overall

Condition Report:
Each of the panels bears the minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age. All are slightly convex in their frames, particularly the one depicting saint Jacintus. This panel also has a thin vertical crack to the centre (apparently to the surface only), circa 5cm in length. There is some stippling, probably tiny pouring bubbles, overall. It also has a partially re-painted upper border below a small aperture where previously hung. The frame has one old split to the lower edge. The panel with Henri II has a small chip to the lower right corner and a loss to the King's right shoe (circa 0.5cm). Three or four areas to the dark ground behind the foliage of the tree are more thickly applied and may be retouches. Some of the gold highlights may also have been later applied. There is a small raised area to the thumb of Philippe Auguste. The smallest panel has a small circular hole to the extended right hand, and the highlights to the forehead (with small scratch) and left hand may be retouched. An area of more notable scuffing to the sword. The panels were not inspected outside of their frames
