Three Mola Textiles of the Cuna (Kuna) Indians, Sun Blas Island, Panama

Ca. mid 20th century/vinatge, multilayer geometric and figural multicolor design. Double wall hanging with rails, 29 ½" x 17"; framed geometric motif, 13 ¾"x 17 ⅞", old card attached on the back; and birds framed with canvas backing, 19 ⅞" x 5 ⅞". Hand made by Kuna women, elaborately designed and painstakingly sewn cloth panels stitched in appliqué.
Provenance: Gus and Mimi Bizic "Mola Woman" lifetime private collection, Sewickley, PA, by descent, and then to current owner; acquired at Panama in 1970, The Kapp Kuna Expedition Collection.

Ref.: Selective works exhibited in Museum of Art Carnegie Museum, April 1 - May 16, 1976, and extensive exhibition at Sewickley Academy's Campbell Gallery, January 3-27, 1984.
