Three Vintage Pima Baskets

[ translate ]

Presented for your collecting pleasure are three vintage Pima baskets. These baskets are great examples of the Pima style and the designs. The plaque and the large bowl shape are decorated in a fret design, while the small bowl is decorated with triangles alternately based on the rim and the bottom of the basket. The Pima (Akimel O'Odham), who reside in central and southern Arizona, produced magnificent baskets with meaningful designs and patterns. Their finely-coiled baskets are made of cattail or bear grass foundation and closely stitched with willow and devil's claw (for designs). They are some of the most sought after of the Southwestern baskets by collectors.
