Tibetan Cased Tsingkas Pair
Late 20th century AD. A cased pair of cymbals comprising: two domed discoid cymbals connected with a leather cord, each with stylised floral motifs in high relief to the upper face and three groups of inscribed characters to the underside; hinged case ornamented with stylised floral motifs on the upper face and base, the upper face with a domed central section and loop for a leather cord which holds the locking bolt. 465 grams, 11.3cm (4 1/2"). The RWM Collection; acquired in France, 2019. In Tibetan processions and dance, drums and cymbals set up basic rhythmic patterns for wind instruments, and in temple settings are used with bells to accompany chant. [No Reserve]
