Thangka of Arhat Hvashang, Tibet, 19th century, gouache on cotton, 23.5 x 16.5 inches, in a cherry wood frame 31 x 24 inches, Hvashang at top left in typical appearance, heavyset and jovial, protecting children, with bead mala, under group of flowers and above lokapalas Virudhaka and Dhritarashtra, at top right is Buddha Amitayus; originally produced as part of a large set portraying the other 17 arhats. Condition Report: Small hole at upper center, expected fraying to what's left of the original silk surround, age appropriate creasing and areas of paint thinning, unexamined outside of frame.
