Tiffany Studios
An Early Vase

circa 1895
Favrile glass
engraved 5539 L.C.T. with the firm's paper label
8¼ in. (20.9 cm) high

Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the vase displays a highly reflective, deep dark green surface decorated with iridescent blue and teal swirls. The glass presents with occasional minor air bubbles, particulate inclusions and surface irregularities which are inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The glass surfaces throughout with scattered, very fine and light surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The surface of the glass displays a subtle craquelure texture concentrated to the upper half of the body which is inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The interior of the vase with traces of light surface soiling. The underside of the vase is applied with small protective felt pads and a Doros Collection accession number. A charismatic early work with eye-catching form and decoration.

Provenance:
Rago, Lambertville, New Jersey, October 1, 2010, lot 473
Macklowe Gallery, New York, 2010
