Tiffany Studios Brown Vase
Tiffany Studios
Brown Vase
circa 1898
Favrile glass
engraved Louis C. Tiffany Favrile o3065 with the firm’s partial paper label
9⅝ in. (24.4 cm) high
Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the opaque vase displays a rich range of brown, brick red and russet hues which perfectly contrast the silver and gold applied decoration. The body of the vase has impressive stature and an organic asymmetrical silhouette. The glass presents with occasional minor air bubbles, particulate inclusions and surface irregularities which are inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The glass surfaces throughout with scattered, very fine and light surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The interior of the vase with light surface soiling. The underside of the vase with traces of adhesive residue and remnants of old paper labels. The underside of the vase is applied with a Doros Collection accession number. A handsome form with expressive decoration.
Provenance:
Sotheby’s New York, March 17, 1990, lot 632
