Tiffany Studios "Cypriote" Vase
Tiffany Studios
"Cypriote" Vase
circa 1914
Favrile glass
engraved L.C. Tiffany-Favrile 7245J
5⅝ in. (14.3 cm) high
Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the vase displays a slightly cooler palette than illustrated in the catalogue photography, with a transparent dark green body with a wonderfully complex “Cypriote” overlay in shades of iridescent gold, heather purple and cobalt blue. As expected with the “Cypriote” technique, the exterior surfaces are wonderfully irregular and tactile with open air bubbles, particulate inclusions and irregularities which are inherent in the making. The interior with a slightly more pronounced open air bubble at the foot, inherent in the making. The glass surfaces throughout with scattered, very fine and light surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The iridized interior of the vase with traces of light surface soiling. The underside of the vase is applied with a Doros Collection accession number.
Provenance:
Doyle, New York, January 11, 1989, lot 319
