Tiffany Studios "Hydrangea" Paperweight Vase
Tiffany Studios
"Hydrangea" Paperweight Vase
circa 1916
Favrile glass
engraved 9351M L.C. Tiffany-Inc. Favrile
7⅝ in. (19.4 cm) high
Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the vase displays a beautifully iridized translucent amber and orange hue decorated with seven creamy white hydrangea blossoms amongst cornflower blue and maroon vines. The glass presents with occasional minor air bubbles, particulate inclusions and surface irregularities which are inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The glass surfaces throughout with scattered, very fine and light surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The interior of the vase with scattered red spotting, inherent in the sprayed application of the iridescence, and with traces of light surface soiling. The underside of the vase is applied with a Doros Collection accession number. A beautiful example of the paperweight technique with great coloration and expressive floral composition.
Provenance:
Frank Shulman, Washington, D.C., 1984
