Tiffany Studios Vase

[ translate ]

Tiffany Studios
Vase

circa 1925
Favrile glass
engraved 988T L.C.T. Favrile with the firm’s paper label
9⅛ in. (23.2 cm) high

Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. When viewed firsthand, the opaque vase displays a variety of earthy yellow, tan and beige tones with a matte acid finish, flowing together to evoke the natural veining of stone. The glass presents with occasional minor air bubbles, particulate inclusions and surface irregularities which are inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The glass surfaces throughout with scattered, very fine and light surface scratches consistent with age and gentle handling. The dark orange interior with traces of light surface soiling. The underside of the vase is applied with a Doros Collection accession number.

Catalogue Note:
This relatively late example from the Tiffany Furnaces is highly reminiscent of some of the glasshouse’s earliest productions, with its swirled design in earth tones and matte acid finish. The vase’s subtle beauty was immediately recognized by the company, who considered it significant enough to display along with a number of extremely important pieces in the Tiffany Studios’ Corona, New York showroom (third piece from left in the period photograph).
