In the 1960s, Timm Ulrichs argued for keeping art out of art spaces and set an example: invited to a solo exhibition, he disinfected the exhibition space with disinfectants, laid out rat poison and sealed the gallery. On the locked entrance door hangs a sign reading "Entry into the exhibition prohibited! " (Kabinett für aktuelle Kunst, Bremerhaven 1970) . In 1969, there was a prototype of the sign (Sprengel Museum, Hanover) . In 2007, the large limited collector's edition was released, followed by the postcard-sized version for museum shops. Timm Ulrichs' suggestion to free art from the enclosure of the "germ-free" white cubes of galleries and museums is thus currently reinforced.
