Clean and crisp sixth plate tintype of an unidentified Federal private of cavalry in full equipment, including a buff leather cross-strap for his saber belt. The young soldier is drawing his saber while holding onto what appears to be a variant of an import British Minie rifle complete with buff leather sling. He wears a US issue mounted service uniform including matching trousers with the prescribed leg saddling. Housed within an octagonal thermoplastic case with embossed purple velvet pad.
