Description: This is a collection of Hiroshige’s woodblock prints in the series ‘The Tokaido Fifty Three Stations’, a series depicting the journey along the Tokaido, or the most important road in Japan. The series was produced in 1833 to 1844. Woodblock print artists often created series of prints, depicting related subjects, and the prints in these series were highly collectible. This book is a collection of 53 miniature reprints of Hiroshige’s most famous series, likely from the 1920s. The collection was put together by Uchida Art Co, LTD from Kyoto. 20th century reprints of famous 19th century prints was a very common practice, and a popular way to own and display famous prints without having to properly handle and store the originals.
Circa: 1920s reprints of 1830s prints.
Dimensions: collection in case- 7.25x4.75x1.75 inches. Each print is 3.5x5.5 inches.
